Getting Started with SerialICE-1A

What You'll Need
To run an application program on your Target using SerialICE-1A, perform the following steps:

  1. If you haven't done so already, Download the PMON source from the Web site.
  2. Next you need to Extract the files from the archive.

    SerialICE Controller
    TargetBDMR4101-beBDMR4101-le
    BDMR4101-beall-beall-be-le
    BDMR4011-beall-beall-be-le
    BDMR4102-beall-beall-be-le
    BDMR4101-leall-be-leall-le
    BDMR4011-leall-be-leall-le
    BDMR4102-leall-be-leall-le
Key: The "-be" means Big Endian, the "-le" means Little Endian.

  3. To configure the package you need to run the Install program using the information that you obtained from the body of the table above.

For example, if your selection shows "all-be", then you need to specify target type 1 during the installation (All Big Endian Processors), if "all-le" then select target type 2 (All Little Endian Processors), if it shows "all-be-le" then select target type 1 (All Big Endian Processors), but when the install program presents you with a summary of all the selected options, select the "Endian Support" option and enter "1 2" to select both byte orderings. Do not change the "Default Endian".

The target type information is summarized below.

    Target TypeTarget Name
    all-be"All Processors Big Endian"
    all-le"All Processors Little Endian"
    all-be-le"All Processors Big Endian" and
Change "Endian Support" to "1 2"

  4. To prepare the package for use you must Build the package.
  5. Configure your hardware.

SerialICE requires an RS232 link between your host and port A on the SerialICE Controller, and a null-modem RS232 link between port B on the SerialICE Controller and port A on your Target. The actual hardware port names will depend on which host, SerialICE Controller, and Target you will be using.

  6. Install the driver.
  7. Build, Download and Execute your application on the Target.
